The Homeopathic Remedy
Homeopathic remedies are not herbal medicines or essential oils. They are medicines prepared according to established homeopathic methods in specialist pharmacies.
Remedies are made from a wide variety of substances, including plants, minerals and animal sources. The original substance is specially prepared and diluted through a process known as potentisation, which involves a series of dilutions and vigorous shaking, known as succussion.
Homeopathic remedies are available in different forms, including small pillules, tablets and liquid preparations.
How Are Remedies Prepared?
The original substance is specially prepared and then diluted through a series of stages. Between each stage of dilution, the preparation is vigorously shaken — a process known as succussion.
This process of repeated dilution and succussion is known as potentisation and is a fundamental part of the traditional preparation of homeopathic remedies.
Different levels of dilution and succussion are used to produce different potencies of a remedy. The potency is indicated by numbers and letters such as 6C, 30C or 200C.
How Is a Remedy Selected?
The remedy is selected individually according to the person and their particular experience of their symptoms. The way you experience your symptoms is an important part of the homeopathic picture.
During a consultation, your homeopath may explore what your symptoms feel like, where they occur, when they started, what makes them better or worse, and whether there are particular times, situations or circumstances that affect them.
